BV2 cells - microglial model for neuroinflammation research
The BV2 cell line is a murine microglial model widely used in neuroscience to study neuroinflammation, neurotoxicity and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Derived from neonatal C57/BL6 microglia and immortalised with a J2 retrovirus carrying v-raf/v-myc oncogenes, BV2 cells exhibit key microglial markers including F4/80, CD11b and Iba1. They provide a reproducible and accessible alternative to primary microglia for in vitro studies.
