We are excited to share our *cool* new sustainability initiative to lower our environmental footprint!
Reducing packaging waste is an ongoing challenge in the life science industry. Cold packs in particular are essential to keep many of our reagents safe during transport, but they can accumulate quickly in labs taking up valuable storage space.
In collaboration with a customer at ETH Zurich, we piloted a project to reduce cold pack waste. Over three months, two research groups collected several hundred cold packs from shipments. This resulted in several hundred cold packs of different sizes. After sorting by size and checking them for leaks, about 80% can be directly reused by our logistics team at Lubioscience, while the rest will be repurposed by a local ice-cream shop to be used in their store.
This joint effort shows how small steps can make a real difference. By working closely with our customers and other local businesses, we can reduce waste and lower our environmental footprint.
We take the environment seriously
At LubioScience we realize that we are part of an industry where sustainability is often not the main focus. Whether it's long supply chains, packaging waste or animal welfare, we still face a lot of issues and there is much room for improvement.
Nevertheless, actions speak louder than words and with this in mind we have taken the route towards becoming a carbon neutral company.
