Serratia marcescens endonuclease, also known as benzonase, is a non-specific nuclease that degrades both single- and double-stranded nucleic acids, including DNA and RNA, but exhibits no proteolytic activity. Therefore, it is ideal for the removal of nucleic acid contaminants from protein samples and applications where complete digestion of nucleic acids is desirable. Benzonase is also commonly used in bioprocessing applications to reduce viscosity of samples caused by genomic DNA.

Our recombinant benzonase is expressed in yeast and purified to > 95% purity.

Benzonase from Lubio is exactly as effective in removing nucleic acid from protein lysates as the significantly more expensive benzonase from Competitor M.

1 ug of herring sperm DNA was digested for 30 minutes at 37°C with the indicated amounts of benzonase from either Lubio or Competitior M. Lane C: control, no benzonase. Lanes 1-5: 2.5u, 1.25u, 0.625u, 0.312u and 0.156u benzonase. Lane 6: 1 kb DNA ladder
