Alpha synuclein & tau proteins by Stressmarq

Stressmarq now offers preformed fibrils (PFFs) and monomers of the proteins alpha synuclein and tau, which are associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Alpha synuclein

Alpha synuclein PFFs seed the formation of more fibrils from a pool of active monomers, inducing Lewy body pathology in neuronal cells.

Active and inactive (control) human preformed fibrils are available. Inactive PFFs do not induce Lewy body pathology in primary rat hippocampal neurons. When active PFFs are combined with active monomers, thioflavin T emission curve shows increased fluorescence (correlated to alpha synuclein protein fibrillation). In contrast, when control alpha synuclein PFFs (SPR-317) are combined with active alpha synuclein monomer (SPR-321) or control alpha synuclein monomer (SPR-316), thioflavin T emission curve does not show an increase in fluorescence. Click on image to enlarge and for legend.

Tau

Tau (tubulin-associated unit) is normally located in the axons of neurons where it stabilizes microtubules. Tau preformed fibrils (PFFs) seed fibrillation of tau monomers and induce tau pathology in neurons.

2N4R, or Tau-441, is the full length tau protein. P301S is a mutation encoded by exon 10 that impairs the ability of tau to assemble microtubules. K18 is a truncated form of human tau containing only the 4 microtubule binding repeats. P301L (PL) is a mutation where proline is replaced by leucine at codon 301 of tau, and has been linked to frontotemporal dementia.
